Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} " " By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X.2628. RE ROAD SPRINGS. X.3483. X.3461. You will see from recent memos that I am quite in agreement with you and Mr. Platford that road strings must be lubricated to prevent squeaking, or some equivalent treatment, such as the fitting of ferodo. You will remember that we thought for ideal riding that the shock dampers with the clearance and steps were the best thing. It now appears that at the moment such shock dampers are scarcely practical, as we are requiring more and more damping. I have logn had the impression that for really nice riding we require very soft and flexible springs, and with these ample damping, preferably in steps. I therefore quite agree that for the immediate future we fit our rear shock dampers without the steps originally arranged and for the maximum friction we think they are capable of standing, which I understand your impression is about 60 lbs. I shall be running 1.EX up to Peterboro towards the end of next week (the 17th or 18th instant) and hope and expect to find the modifications you have made to the existing springing of this car (constant damping) to be distinctly advantageous, and to be the best that we shall be able to recommend for the immediate output. I sincerely hope Contd. | ||
