Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 13th instant, confirming Mr. Clapham's call on us, and the ensuing discussion on types and testing of spring interleaving.

The Spauldite and the American interleaving were left with us, and this, together with VG.91 and plain and bakelised board, are to be tested on our rig as soon as the latter can be modified on the lines of our discussion. With regard to the modifications to this rig, you will recollect that while the speed of 133 double strokes per minute cannot be conveniently modified, we can reduce the stroke of the eccentric to 1/8", and short lengths of spring steel can be fitted to the sliding bar. We decided that the spring load could be taken as 1,000 lbs. and that this pressure was concentrated at 2 sq.ins on each end of a main leaf. From this we decided that the samples should be tested under a static load of 250 lbs. per sq. in.

We doubt whether the temperature rise on our rig will prove troublesome, as the load will be reduced from 720 lbs. to 500 lbs. and the stroke of the slider will be only 1/12th of its present value, reducing the total dissipation of energy to approximately 1/17th of its present value.

With regard to the plain board and VG.91 lining required for Woodhead, we expect to be able to write you further after the Easter holidays.

Yours faithfully,
FERODO LIMITED.
