c. Mr. Walker (Patents)

Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/R.12.8.38.

With reference to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}3/R.10.8.38., attached, it is quite clear that in spite of Taub's statement to the contrary when reading his paper, no one has yet succeeded in getting away with an induction pipe which will give optimum breathing at high speeds, and, at the same time, give snap opening up. The discrepancy between the two requirements becomes more marked as the breathing of the engine is improved. We are now working on piston areas over inlet valve areas of less than 3.5 on the overhead inlet side valve exhaust engine with no particular limitations of decreasing this factor still further, so that some basic move on the induction system becomes essential.

In view of this fact we recommend that the Patent is taken out on the lines of Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}494. This should be incorporated in the names of Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} and CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}

Wkll Ald.{F. Allwood - Experimental Design} please get out the necessary detail drawings.

Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}
