X4609F 358 To Ds. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RHG. E.5/HP.13.9.34. re SpectreCodename for Phantom III. In connection with the specifications drawn up for the production of further SpectreCodename for Phantom III chassis, I should be glad if you would give consideration to any reduction in weight which we can reasonably carry out. I have in mind one example, namely, the forgings bolted into the front crossmember, which constitute the stiffening bases carrying the independent suspension, which we have already discussed. These forgings should be considerably reduced in weight by extensive drilling, or by other means, and instructions should be issued accordingly for the next chassis.
