+5820 To C.J. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} S E C R E T. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG26. 8. 25. R 10,000 MILES TEST ON 'INDIA' IN FRANCE. With reference to the attached daily report dated 21.8.25. In our Instruction Book for the 20 HP. car we recommend that batteries are inspected once per week in the summer time and once every fortnight in the Winter, distilled water added if necessary. In France, on the average, they have to add distilled water every 1000 miles. We consider it would only be on rare occasions that the customer drove his car 1,000 miles per week. The conditions of running in France, where the car is running continuously the whole day, it is much worse than occasional short runs which never allow the battery to warm up. The cylinders were cleaned before this test started. Detonations are chiefly controlled by the type of fuels used. This same car completed the 10,000 miles previously without being cleaned during the test. When it returned to Derby it was run on the standard fuel which we use at the Works and it was relatively free from .detonation. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
