relief valve to be observed directly. The suction and bye-pass holes were then plugged up and the delivery side of the pump subjected to a head of about 10 ft. of petrol with the gears stationary. Petrol was then seen to leak by the relief valve, confirming the results of the previous test.

We think that the relief valve is too large to be leak-proof against petrol, and suggest a small valve.

Pump delivery at various speeds.

The delivery of the pump was checked at various engine speeds with the relief valve removed, and the bye-pass plugged up, the lift being 8 ft. and the head 16 ft.
