SECRET. CJ's Memorandum to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} By Bag. 6/3/25 re 'India'. CJ4/E6/3/25 Many thanks for Worl/MS/3/25 on the 20 HP position and for the valuable information and suggestions given therein. As far as I can see at present, you should aim at the following programme, namely, that, in addition to delivering to London the remainder of the current chassis, you should make preparations which will enable you to deliver to London between the 13th June and the 24th October 240 'India' chassis. Whether all of these shall be fitted with FWB before they leave the Works or whether a part of these shall be issued to London without FWB and returned afterwards to the Works for the purpose of fitting FWB must depend largely upon the date at which trials have proved that the FWB's are sufficiently successful and trustworthy to enable them to be fitted to chassis issued to the public. I am not quite clear on two points: You say that you expect to deliver to London the last of the current chassis about the 18th April or a little later. Presumably in order to deliver to London 240 'India' chassis between the 13 June and the 24th October, the 'India' chassis will be passing through the Shops long before the 18th April and will be passing xxxxxxx out of test into a secret store immediately after the 18th April and will remain there until they can be sent to London on the 13th June. As regards the last two paragraphs of your memo. you speak of the cost of fitting FWB to 'India' chassis at the Works as being £30. I take this not to be the cost of fitting brakes to the chassis before it leaves the Works but the extra cost (over and above the ordinary cost of brakes) of fitting the brakes after the complete car has returned to Derby for that purpose.
