E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. c. to Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.3/MA.18.6.35. LAMP AND HORN CABLES ON 5.B.IV. These cables certainly need more protection than that afforded on 5.B.IV. From an examination of the cables it appears that those running to the horns, headlamps, and sidelamps, emerged from the flexible metal tubing a short distance from the radiator. From this point, until they reached their respective units, the cables were protected, in places only, by such devices, as, tape, sistoflex sleeving, and copper tubing. The cable suspension was also poor, with the result that an insufficiently, or entirely unprotected portion of cable was allowed to rub against edges at points like the end of the bonnet side-strip, and the side of the radiator. It was at the latter point that the insulation of one of the horn cables had become frayed through, causing it to earth. The headlamp cables also shewed signs of having rubbed on the end of the bonnet strip. We recommend that attention be given to the cables with a view to affording more mechanical protection.
