Ferodo interleaving for springs and suggesting alternative materials and designs.

| Contd. -2- R6/G10.9.20. that the ferodo interleaving will stand road conditions of mud and water, etc. It rather indicated that the friction with ferodo interleaving plates would probably be in the neighbourhood of .15 to .200 and is verymuch less than the friction that takes place between steel and steel plates unlubricated and rusted. I have thought that if the Ferodo people could use copper or brass gauze in the manufacture of the road springs inter-leaves, it might help to prevent disintegration. X.3745. The only alternative to the Ferodo inter-leaves appears to be the binding of the springs with oil absorbant tape or cord, and an external jacket of leather or some water and oil proof material. I have also suggested the possibility of a rain and dust-proof cell for the rear spring if of cantilever type. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
