X4086 HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} X4086 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}5/LG29.3.22. We have received your wire and have replied as follows:- "Haldenby - 6-Goshawk-ll hope to leave England Wednesday next, propose sending steering levers with car or can send Boulogne address you to call for - wire instructions - am communicating you to address given - Platford". Could you please arrange for the faulty steering levers to be returned to us for investigation, as soon as replaced as I am now pushing forward the question of alteration to design, but BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} is anxious to confirm the fact that the material is satisfactory, as a matter of fact, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reports that R.{Sir Henry Royce} questioned whether the steering levers are strong enough, but in his case he refers to the steering lever carrying the front end of the side steering tube and which he does not think sufficiently strong to carry the weight of the side steering rod. We are also anxious to receive from you particulars of the running of the car, especially dealing with points which have given trouble, if any. We are rather anxious to hear from you whether any trouble has been experienced with loss of water from the radiator, as in testing 6-Goshawk-ll, we found that we had a considerable loss of water even although the water did not boil and we have since found that the circulation of the water set up by the pump is greater than the amount the radiator will pass through, under ordinary gravity conditions, and we feel before send 6-Goshawk-ll car, that we shall have to make some alterations to overcome this trouble. I am enclosing a copy of summary report to CJ. on B 10,000 miles test on which I would like to have your comments, especially as regards the experience you are having with your car and in regard to the salient outstanding weaknesses referred to.
