The first serious failure of this type of clock has occurred with No.IV unit, fitted on car 27.G.VI. It was reported to have stopped once, following which it lost about eight minutes in a day and a half. The clock was removed from the car and tested on the bench. After about 20 hours' running it stopped. It was restarted and ran without stop for eight days, during which period it lost 22 minutes by amounts varying from 1 minute to 6 minutes per day. The complete history of this unit is as follows:- It was received and fitted on 27.G.VI on 8.7.38. Ran 6,901 miles, during which it was reported to have stopped twice. Was then damaged and removed from car, 21.9.38. Was returned to the makers, repaired and refitted, 14.1.39. Ran 11,384 miles, when it again stopped once, and commenced to lose time. It was then removed for bench test. We are returning the unit to the makers for their examination and report. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs} | ||
