NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I STEERING.

With reference to EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}13/H29.9.26.

In our specification of low geared steering, we state that the amount of freedom between the nut and worm should not exceed .005". In this condition with the worm and nut perfectly dry, the free movement at the periphery of the steering wheel should not exceed .400 ". This should be reduced when the steering box is filled with oil.

With regard to tackiness and binding: this is a question of degree. We consider that a definite standard should be maintained on this point and in any case the tackiness which we consider might be permissible should not occur until after a run of 50/60 miles.
