5th Plain steel drums were again fitted. The result was groans were immediately produced.

6th Present damping plates were carefully bedded on to the drums, and two extra retaining springs were fitted. The result was nil, vibrations could still be felt on the back plate of the drums.

7th Steel ribbed brake drums were again fitted with the rubber intact. Result no groans.

From these tests we proved that the weakest part of the brake mechanism was the back plate of the drums. The fitting of the rubber is hardly practicable, stiffer back plates would probably overcome the trouble but this is rather difficult with the present design owing to the closeness of the wire spokes of the road wheels and the brake drums.

We have not proceeded any further with the tests, due to the Fench job coming along.
