X4228 BY/Bhm/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}12.6.23. c. to Hw. RE 20 HP CHASSIS - CARBURETTER - SEC:5080. THROTTLE VALVE SPINDLE SEIZURE. In connection with the complaints re seizure of the throttle valve spindle E.50624 in the spray chamber bearings, Mr Bailey would like you to produce 6 spindles in stainless steel, tempered at 700° to 750° C. to facilitate the hollow rivetting. These spindles should be assembled in standard carburetters. Mr Bailey also instructs that 6 Spray chambers E.51643 should be fitted with chilled cast P.B. bushes as shown on drawing E.52673/4. We think the bosses on existing castings are large enough. These spray chambers should then be built up with standard P.B. throttle spindles. The engine numbers of these special carburetters should be notified to the Test Dept; who can report on the following tests:- 1. Stainless steel spindle in gunmetal Bearings. 2. Drawn Phosphor Bronze spindle in chilled cast Phosphor bronze bearings. 3. Stainless steel spindle in chilled cast Phosphor bronze bearings. We attach one blueprint of E.52673/4 to Mr Swift's and Mr Platford's copies of this memo. BY/Bhm. | ||
