20 HP. Chassis - Tyres.

We are in receipt of your BY2/G5.7.28.

We are anxious to see Balloon Tyres on the present chassis as soon as possible. We understand that R.{Sir Henry Royce} is working on the 19" wheel - i.e. 31 x 6" tyre for India 3. but if, for present Production chassis, we can have the 20" wheel - i.e. 32 x 6", this will meet the case and overcome the previous difficulties which have stood in the path of equipping the 20 HP. with Balloon Tyres.

As copy of your memo has been sent to Ds. and you mention the necessity of obtaining R's opinion, we presume this will be done direct by WW. but if you wish BJ. to let write him from here, please let us know.

Assuming that R.{Sir Henry Royce} agrees the suggestion, we should like to have as soon as possible, a set of 20" wheels so as to equip one of our cars with these and try them, and also to have as soon as possible, information as to our present commitments from the point of view of how soon a change could be made.

We assume that if this size tyre was introduced as standard, it would do away with the necessity of introduction of the lower geared axle - i.e. 10/47, but if the Technical people at W. still wish to introduce this, then we suggest that the matter should be taken in two steps - i.e. -

1). Every effort made to introduce the 32 x 6" tyre as soon as possible.

2). Experiments made, and car tried by S. having the 10/47 axle and the 32 x 6" wheels and tyres.
