re. "U" SERIES CHASSIS - NOISY SERVO GEAR MECHANISM.

We have for some time been investigating the noise from the Servo Gear, a feature which I appreciate existed with the Experimental cars.

I brought this matter forward on the early chassis on test as being a feature which would not be satisfactory from the customers point of view, but was informed that it was up to Experimental Department specification.

I have therfore continued passing cars off test with this weakness. There is, however, a variation in the intensity of this fault with different chassis, and it is absolutely futile to deliver some chassis to customers in this condition, as certainly from the customers point of view it would not be acceptable. I am afraid, therefore, there is no alternative but for me to turn chassis down as not fit for delivery unless the servo gear is reasonably quiet.

In the meantime it is essential that this fault should be investigated and some improvement made as I feel that such an alteration will have to be made sooner or later retrospectively, and the less chassis we have in customers' hands with this weakness the better for the Company.

If you consider there is no alternative but to deliver chassis in this condition or stop output, please let me know, so that I can inform Sales Dept.
