June 13, 1939. 739 The Motor Streamlining at Le Mans Open and Closed Racing Cars for the 24-hour Race This Week-end Adler, who won the Biennial cup last year, have entered two streamlined saloons again this year. These pictures show the care with which the streamlining has been developed. To check the streamlining of the Adler saloons and reduce wind resistance to a minimum, strings were attached all over the cars, so that their behaviour at speed could indicate eddies which were reducing efficiency. Note also the exit for warm air from under the radiator. Among the French entries are three Delahayes of 3½-litres capacity which will be driven by Gerard, winner of last year's T.T., Monneret and Hug and Loyer. Head lamps and fog lamps are faired into the coachwork and wings are streamlined to reduce resistance. Even more complete is the streamlining of the 1,100 c.c. Simca-Fiats entered by Gordini, one of which is shown below. (Below) The streamlined tail of the Le Mans Lagonda which is fully described in this issue. 31 30 A19 | ||
