PART I - ENGINE UNITS.

(A) - ADVANCE DEVELOPMENT OF ENGINE UNITS.

(1) SUPERCHARGER. Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} reported that designs were ready for issue covering the adaptation of a 9.75" dia. rotor to the Griffon I supercharger; manufacture of the parts is in hand.

(2) TWO SPEED BLOWER DRIVE. Experimental Dept. recommendations for revised blower drive gears are 11.4:1 (F.S) and 8.17 (M.S) - these were agreed.
Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} promised the issue of preliminary information for the new gears required by the middle of next week (25th April). Modifications may be necessary to the clutches to accommodate the increased powers required to drive the blower on these new ratios.
HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/LB gave a tentative promise for completion of the first Griffon II blower drive unit at the end of this month.

(3) MAGNETO AND A.T.D. UNIT Lr{Mr Ellor}/Wst reported that the first lightened Rotax magneto would be on test (in the Rotax lab) in 10 days time. This development is very urgent owing to the fact that very severe contact point wear is being experienced on the existing magnetos which are fitted with platinum points. The severe wear is caused by arcing due to the large current passing; on the lightened magneto the current is less and should allow the use of tungsten points. The first B.T.H. magneto has now run 20 hours - contact wear is reported not to be excessive.

Delivery of the magneto providing for adjustment between the inlet and exhaust plug timing is now promised for 3rd May (previous promise 12th April). Lr{Mr Ellor}/Lov{Mr Lovesey} reported that preliminary tests indicated that 7o difference is required between the inlet and exhaust plug timing.

Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} promised completion of designs for the A.T.D.unit test rig in a week.

(4) AUXILIARY GEAR BOX. Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} will investigate fouls reported in assembling the first gearbox; completion promise of April 26th will not be kept because of
