X5791 EFC2/T13.12.27. To Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} BOSCH MAGNETO FOR 20 HP. X5790 We are anxious to know if the Bosch people make a magneto suitable for the 20 HP. - one to be of the sleeveless type, without a distributor, and to have a particularly good low speed performance. As regards the range, we would like to see, if they have such a machine to offer, what range they have provided. At present we have a range of 58° on the sleeve machine for the 20 HP., but we do not think such a magneto can be obtained with short cobalt steel magnets, and an equally good or better low speed performance as the present sleeve type. We want - (1) A sleeveless magneto. (2) Considerably reduced cost. (3) Preferably short cobalt steel magnet type, like our present 20 HP. type, as this gives a greater degree of accessibility to other parts of the engine. (4) Particularly good low speed performance. (5) As large a range as possible up to 58°. But, as stated, if we fix the range at 58° our impression is that all of these at the same time are not possible. EFC. | ||
