X.9940 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} S E C R E T. E1/M1.4.24. c. to CJ. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. WW. REPORT. X.9940 Referring to the RRM. and M.DES.60 brake gear schemes, I have not personally been able to do much actual drawing on this job, but have endeavoured to help in other ways, as there is a limit to the number of parts into which the scheme could be divided. The attached blueprint LeC.1859 shews how the balancing lever comes out. There is possibly more distance than one might have expected between the sheet metal levers, and this makes the cruciform section rather long. It is due to the second or driven threaded lever on the servo and its rod coming in between to couple up on the M.DES.60 scheme and appears to be unavoidable. An alternative construction is shewn using bolts, and a torsionally stiffer centre. An Enots lubricator is proposed for lubricating the balance lever bearing as being simple and effective, and this could be either on the end of the bolt or on the lever hub, both positions being accessible. The schemes of the brake gear are completed with the exception of the mechanism on the servo itself, which latter Mr. Stent will probably finish today. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
