We have sent you the following telegram:-

"CADILLAC GUDGEON PINS AND BUSHES AGAIN FAILED. WIRE INSTRUCTIONS."

We noticed after yesterday's run that the engine was not running very well and was decidedly noisy. It was after this morning's early run definitely failing, the over-run rattle pronounced and a general knock running light. We, therefore, dismantled it. The gudgeon pin bushes are almost as badly worn as the previous ones. The bushes supplied by Dubonnet's look as if the metal had disintegrated. The surface is rough, and looks as if it had been sand blasted. The bushes supplied by the General Motors have not the same appearance. They are polished, but have the spots of metal that has been dragged out. When taken down, pistons, gudgeon pins, bushes were smothered in oil. We are at a loss to state why the wear has taken place, other than they are not up to the job, for the long sustained runs at high speed. Although we have reported no oil pressure failing, we have not run the engine for more than a few moments slow speed, because of a failure occuring through lack of oil.
