Mr. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham. Page 2 - method we have eliminated all slots in the driven plate faces and yet have been able to keep the plates entirely flat under driving temperatures of over 700°F.{Mr Friese} We believe that the elimination of slots from the drive plate faces will still further reduce the wear and increase the life of plates and facings. The driven plate in the Rolls Royce clutch for which we have made metallic facings is of much heavier construction than the plate shown on the blue print attached. It is therefore possible that for the Rolls Royce clutch it would not be necessary to go to a plate construction along the lines shown on the blue print, especially as the tests so far on the powdered metal facings appear to have been satisfactory. We sincerely hope that your success with the powdered bronze facings will continue and that you will be able to test the new type of facings because, if our hopes are realized, they will not only be less expensive but will give still better service. Very sincerely yours, THE CLEVELAND GRAPHITE BRONZE COMPANY. James L. Myers James L. Myers, Secretary & Treasurer. JLM:S ENCL. x 700 F = 371 C. Dark blue temper = 300°C. Dull red hot = 581 C | ||
