The fitting and testing of the U.S.A. Bosch Battery Ignition system for the 40/50 chassis.

We consider that the U.S. Bosch Company have made a very good job in making their ignition suitable for our 40/50 chassis but we were very disappointed in the manner in which Springfield had fixed the coil and arrangement of wiring. Attached is a photograph of the Bosch ignition with the coil and wiring which we have arranged, and is, what we consider the neatest arrangement. We agree that the R-R coil with the lugs on the bottom should give a still neater appearance. We recommend, however, that the responsibility for the battery ignition should rest solely with the U.S. Bosch Company. One would imagine that they would be quite agreeable to fit the coil box to R-R design because it appears to us to be cheaper and of simpler construction than the one they use. We have fitted the ignition to the engine on the Test Bench to check the action of the automatic advance governor. We find that it works very well indeed. Below are the results. We have tested the length of spark we get at the sparking plug points; it is equal to the best we obtain with the R-R We consider that the U.S.A. Bosch Ignition has the following advantages over the battery ignition we are at present fitting to our 40/50 chassis. contd:- | ||
