-2- Contd. (3) Both field fuses are missing. (4) The cutout series winding, the flexible connection to the armature cover and the earthed connection on the cutout, shew signs of having been very hot. The solder is melted from the lug on the earthing end of the series winding which is practically breaking the main circuit. (5) The terminal connection of the series winding to earth is loose. (6) The shunt winding does not appear to have been excessively heated. Our conclusions are therefore that considerable resistance has been inserted in the main dynamo-battery circuit by the above circuit faults and caused the heat generated to be sufficient to melt the solder from the cutout earthing terminal and to burn the insulation off the wire and discolour the flexible connection on the cutout. It does not appear necessary to conclude that the dynamo has been inadvertently run on open circuit, but simply that bad main dynamo-battery circuit connections have developed which have caused the machine to run at a high voltage and output. The fact that the field fuses are not sent with the distribution board is some loss of evidence. Distribution board herewith sent to EY. EFC. | ||
