MERLIN ENGINES.

Ball Bearings Supplied from America.

Further to our HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}2/JW.12.11.40., in connection with the above; we give below, for your information, a summary of the position of American bearings, allocated and fitted to date.

1. Merlin No.4549 - (R.M.5.S)

This engine is being rebuilt for further test, following inspection after 20 hours bearing development test.

20 U.S.A.bearings are fitted, including 5 SKF. and 4 MRC.types.

2. Merlin No.6777 - (R.M.2.S.M)

Bearing development tests are in progress, 16 hours having been completed to date.

30 U.S.A. ball bearings, including 9 SKF. and 4 MRC. types are included in the specification.

3. Merlin X. No.19.

The above engine is being prepared for development tests; 18 American bearings, including 6 SKF. and 2 MRC. types are being fitted.

4. Merlin XX. No.505.

This engine is also in preparation for development tests; the specification includes 30 American bearings, 9 SKF. and 4 MRC. types.
