X4229 RE "GOSHAWK II" CAMSHAFT BEARINGS.

We send you herewith Lec.1374 showing Mr. Royce 's proposal for machining the "Goshawk II" camshaft bearings without using the extra cast-on wings (which have to be milled off afterwards) at present in use for our other engines.

The top half of the camshaft bearings overlaps the bottom half, owing to it having oil catcher pots. This overlap is used for clamping purposes on the boring jig.

To obtain a datum for drilling each half, Mr. Royce suggests milling the bearing sides, as shewn on Lec.1374, it does not matter if these milled faces shew on the finished top halves of the camshaft bearings.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
