Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GTS C. HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH{R. Hollingworth} SECRET. Re Steering Column Ripplet/2-R-2. Although the specification for Ripplet chassis 2-R-2 which we are revising in accordance with our meeting on Tuesday last will call for the final column with the revised Wilmot Breedon Steering Wheel we appreciate that an existing Corniche Column will be fitted at the outset. Since the side steering arm of the cenre lever of the bent front pan is longer than that of the centre of the B.5. with with astraight front pan, a B.5. pendulum lever cannot be used without loss of look. If a Silver Wraith 60 or Silver Phantom 80 lever be used, full lock would be obtained but with the Silver Phantom turns of the the steering wheel i.e. about 1.7 turns on apposed to the B.5. 2.9 turns. On our scheme P.D.432 we call for a longer pendulum for Ripplet to give 2.9 turns, and we shall have to give you a detail of such a lever in due course. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
