2050/2050 12th April 1912. Frame. Mr Johnson said - "Why cannot the deeper frame be introduced into 2000 and what would be entailed by so doing? To introduce the deeper frame on 2000, assuming that experiments are satisfactory, would involve the scrapping of side members costing £525.. "I asked Mr Nadin some time ago what was the matter with the 12" frame; why was it impracticable and why if it was impracticable could this not be discovered on the drawing board. "Mr Royce in his original memorandum and sketch pointed out that the 12" frame could be so far drilled as to make it as light as the 6". Are we abandoning the 12" before we know whether it could be made as light as the 8". On March 22nd Mr Nadin said that he thought the 12" frame would be impracticable on account of its great weight and its appearance, and he thought we might try a 9" frame. This was merely his personal opinion and the tests have been in no way abandoned as Mr Royce issued an instruction for such tests to be made. We proposed to go into the question of lightening the frame by drilling but there are certain points to consider, as for instance the trouble of dirt getting in, and | ||
