X2894 To GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} from EFC. c. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. EFC1/T5.3.27. RE TUNGSTEN POINTS. On 10-G3 for the 10,000 mile test we have as you know, tungsten points. There has been considerable anxiety on Mr. Royce's part to be able to use tungsten points for standard. Though we have almost sufficient experimental evidence on which to standardise this, we have thought it advisable to postpone standardisation until after the result of this 10,000 mile test. You will understand therefore that the final standardisation or non-standardisation hangs definitely on the behaviour of these points on this test. Mr. West will should be given an opportunity of lining up these points and setting them correctly in the first instance, and we trust that all possible experimental evidence will be forthcoming, and also that they should not be touched unless it becomes absolutely necessary, and in that case only the minimum amount of touching up will be done. We hope and think you may find that these points will carry you through the 10,000 mile test satisfactorily without requiring any adjustment whatsoever. EFC.
