DYNAMO.
The hole in the cover from the dynamo should be at the bottom. If you undo it I think you will find that it can be turned round so that the hole is at the bottom. The idea of the hole is that when the cover is removed you will see underneath a screw type lubricator - if you unscrew the cap off this and slip the hole in the cover over it and replace the screw cap, the cover will then be held rigidly free of the magneto drive and you can then run the engine and watch the brushes with the cover off.

ENGINE GUARDS.
We cannot tell from your report exactly where the mud is getting through. We think that it is impracticable to fit engine guards closer than 3/16". It may mean that we shall have to rivet a strip of thick felt on the engine. We should like your suggestions and how you think the trouble can be overcome.
