The earth wiring should be used on the 40/50 which would save a lot of wire, look much neater and would enable us to have only one type of lamp bulb. SWITCH BOX. There would have to be a modification to the switch box in order to provide for both battery and magneto ignitions. We very much doubt, however, whether it is necessary to provide the three positions on the ignition switch as we do at present i.e., "B", "M & B" and "M". * We recommend all customers to run with both ignitions switched on. Those customers who do not run with both ignitions, invariably complain of the running of the car on magneto. * Quite apart from the quality of the magne to this depends upon the position of the sparking plug. The 40/50 cars produced by Springfield have, for some considerable time now, had only one ignition switch which switches on both battery and magneto simultaneously. EF. reports from his recent visit to Springfield, that this has overcome the complaints of poor slow running they used to have, and they have suffered no apparent disadvantage. The only disadvantage one could see is that the car might run with one ignition obviously out of order and the driver not know it until he came to use it owing to the failure of the other ignition. There is no guarantee at present, that this would not happen if both ignitions were used the whole time as we recommend, and each not tested separately.
