contd :- -2- observed drop in stiffness going from seven to three main bearings for some of our crankshafts :- ENGINE. Crankpin as % of total extra equiv: length. % drop in stiffness in three bear-ings. Standard 20 HP. 34.2 6.0 Standard Phantom. 27.0 6.5 First 'Sports' Phantom. 42.5 21.0 India 3. 30 HP. 43.5 19.0 From the test results on India 3. shaft in all bearings, the corrected stiffness for one crank is 2.11 x 10^6 lbs.ins/rad. Carter's formulae gives :- 2.00 x 10^6 lbs.ins/rad. so that the ratio calculated/test stiffness = .950 or within 5% Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/S.S.Trecillion. | ||
