8180. To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6/MJ.8.7.31. CARS IN THE EXPL. DEPT. Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}2/E7.7.31. No work has been done on 14-EX. in connection with the Maybach change gear, since you last tried this car in London. The car is still running about with this feature on it because we have had no reason to take it off but actually no money has been spent on it. 14-EX, as you are aware, is a non-standard car. Briefly, it is a Phantom 1 with Phantom ll type frame and springing. It is still a useful experimental car because it is the only car we have of any type, that has a gearbox separate from the engine, and for certain experiments this is useful.
