X. 8080 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E3/M5.10.26. PHANTOM CARBURETTER. Referring to your sch. No.809 shewing ball brgs. on the throttle spindle of the carb., we anticipate that there will be trouble due to rusting with these bearings, also we fear that as designed the spindle is too weak where the slot for the disc valve runs into the reduced dia. at the ends. Mr. Royce would like you to revise this sch. employ-ing roller bearings instead of balls. The rollers should be made of stainless steel, and they should run direct on the throttle spindle, and in a stainless steel housing. These modifications should enable you to get the bearing into a small dia. without employing a weak shaft. We do not want to move the carburetter any further away from the engine as it is already too near to the bonnet. The throttle valve might be built in nearer to the low speed jet centre. We return herewith your original sch.809., together with a letter from the Hoffmann Ball Brg. Co. dated Sept.24th. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
