Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr. Jepson.

I understand from Mr. Valentine that certain proposals which I laid before him with regard to the 40 HP. Dynamometer in our possession were shown to you. Briefly, they are as under:-

(1) Fitting a 25 lb. weight and balance in place of the existing 50 lb. set.

(2) Shortening the effective radius to give a brake constant of WN/3500 or WN/3000 to replace the existing WN/2500.

I was rather anxious to see you and talk this matter over as I gather you do not think the suggestions practicable, but Mr. Allen tells me you were very rushed last week and unable to spare the time. As I am anxious to know whether there are any serious snags to the above proposals which to me seem very suitable and desirable, I should be glad if you could let me have your views on the subject.

Points in favour, as I see them are as under:-

(1) The engine at present coupled to the brake very seldom pulls more than 20 HP. nor does it give a load in excess of 15 lbs.

(2) The bore and stroke give an m.e.p. factor of 8.5W, which means that .2 lb error, which is considered allowable on this unit is 1.7 b.m.e.p. and nearly 1½% error at 15 lbs. lift.

(3) Modifications to the scale as suggested would
