RESONANCE SILENCER 20/25 HP.

MX{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}7/T.13.3.33. With reference to the two points raised :-

(1) Owing to the fact that the new silencer is freer that the previous silencer, the spitting noises will be slightly more pronounced. We do not know any means of altering the silencer to remedy this without "stuffing" it up again or lagging it, neither of which appear to be justified by the complaint.

(2) Contraction noises from the silencer should be no worse than on the Phantom resonance silencer provided that the clearances between the baffles and the silencer shell are the same. We find that on the 20/25 insufficient clearance has been allowed. Will By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} please have this altered, all sliding baffles should have .030" clearance (diametral) in the shell. This point should be especially noted on the drawings so that the works realise the importance of a "clearance fit" at this point.
