TRANSMISSION RATTLES.

With reference to our conversation on clutch driven members with spring drives, we send you herewith R.R.Sch.299 which shews the scheme we are at present running on PeregrineExperimental Bentley car never produced / Aero Engine. The actual quantities on Chrysler spring drives were -

Total range of movement ±2°.

Friction setting 29 lbs/ft.

Torque due to springs alone on stops - 131 lbs/ft

Torsional rating of springs 3500 lbs/ft per radian

On the ones we have designed we have found some difficulty in getting the spring load as high as that on the Chrysler.
