To C.J. from R. {Sir Henry Royce} RE CAR 31-RB. {R. Bowen} CONTD. (2)

I strongly recommend the removal of all weight possible, and it is possible when changing the pistons to aluminium to remove the balance weights, and considerably lighten the front flywheel of the engine. This weight removed is generally beneficial to the engine, and takes some little weight off the front wheels, which is very desirable.

Regarding the manufacturing of bevel gearing in America, one cannot agree with this until we have our own factory there, and know exactly for instance, that the steel and case hardening is right. A breakage of a back axle gear would be a very serious matter for the reputation of the cars.
