RE "GOSHAWK" PEDAL GEAR AND BRAKE EQUALIZING GEAR".
We send herewith a print of "N" Scheme 548 shewing the proposed arrangement of the pedals on "Goshawk". We have followed the arrangement shewn on LeC.1207 in general particulars.
On "N" Scheme 572 we have shewn the pedals adapted to the two seating positions, the latter being taken from the existing coachbuilders drawings.
In the adjustment of the foot brake we have tried to get something rather cheaper than the standard arrangement. We send a print of "N" Scheme 558 shewing four alternative suggestions.
Of these we think we prefer Fig 4 with the hand wheel on a vertical axis, as we think this would be very easy.
We also send a print of "N" Scheme 546 shewing the brake equalizing gear in accordance with Mr Royce's most recent instructions and "N" Scheme 547 shewing the whole arrangement of the brake gear.
Also another print of "N" Scheme 152 - a suggestion for the levers on the back axle, but we are going further into this point, as we think we may be able to get a better arrangement.
For one thing, the levers are shewn at 45° to the vertical centreline but on "N" Scheme 547 we have put them at 30° to bring the ropes more on to the centre-line of the torque tube.
"N" Scheme 557 shews diagrammatically the leverages to give the same angular motion on the axle on the standard 40/50.
