X328 Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.10/JH. 21st April, 1936. Messrs. Silentbloc Ltd., Victoria Gardens, Ladbroke Road., Notting Hill Gate, LONDON, W.11. For the attention of Mr. Jelly. Dear Sirs, We are intending to use your Silentbloc bush M.2300 for a central rear engine mounting, the axis of the bush being horizontal to the ground and at right angles to the engine crank shaft. Under normal conditions there will only be a vertical load of 300 lbs., but due to the pumping of the propellor shaft a load up to 1600 lbs. may be exerted. Will you please let us know :- (1) The displacement of the core of the bush for 1600 lbs. (2) The load per degree resisting the engine to rotate about an axis in line with the centre of the bush. (3) The cost of these bushes for batches of 200. There is no torsion taken in the bush. We should be very grateful if you could supply us with this information, as it might save both of us considerable time in developing this engine mounting which was finally not a credit to either of us. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LTD | ||
