FOR THE ATTENTION OF MR. ARROWSMITH.

Dear Sirs,

We are sending, under separate cover, yet another speedometer which has failed on the trip machanism. We realise that this instrument is one of the older ones, and probably made up by hand.

Since these failures are causing a bad impression, we think it necessary to sort out the instruments now on our experimental cars and get them changed over for production units. We would be glad to have your comments on the above failure.

With regard to the special drive which you made up for us, we find that it still fluctuates half a division round about 10 m.p.h., even on the bench, and we think you will agree with us that it should be perfectly steady. We have found that this fluctuation does vary slightly between different instruments. Can you effect an improvement by a modification in the instrument itself?

We will fit this drive to a car as soon as possible and will determine whether any improvement can be effected by a more rigid mounting for the drive.

Yours faithfully,
For Rolls Royce Ltd.,
