82465 To C. From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/MJ.26.3.35. Re. OILS. Replying to C.1/C.9.3.35 and C.8/C.21.3.35. At the present time all the Oil Companies are announcing new grades with wonderful advantages. We do not believe their claims. On the question of oils we can give some sort of guide as to what viscosity we want but as regards the patent treatments we have to leave that to the integrity of the Oil Companies because it is always open for them to alter their oils at any time and we should have no opportunity of finding this out. We therefore have adopted the attitude that if the Oil Companies would like to replace their present grades we accept it, but we certainly do not accept any of the statements of the improvements which are likely to be obtained from using the latest oils.
