March 28th 1933.

Messrs Klaxon Ltd,
36, Blandford Street,
London. W.1.

For the attention of Mr.C.R.Gentry.

Dear Sir,

We have now bench tested the two windscreen wipers you have kindly submitted for test. Of the two, we found the modified series wound motor type EW.378 to give the best results. This wiper gave a good stalling torque and operated at a much lower current figure than the standard Klaxon TW.082. The temperature rise was also considerably less.

The shunt wound model EW.377 gave a very poor torque at the wiper spindles and its current consumption was higher. This model could, we consider, be made more satisfactory if the windings were wound for less current and the gear ratio between wiper and motor increased. With a shunt wound motor, variations of load do not materially affect the wiper speed.

We are very pleased, however, with the performance of the EW.378 wiper and consider it a big improvement over the TW.082.

In order to continue tests we have fitted the EW.378 to a chassis, and we are returning the motor off the EW.377 with the request that you exchange it for a series model EW.378 motor in order that we can fit up another chassis.

We suggest, however, that you continue experiments with shunt wound motors for these wipers.

Yours faithfully,
