re Car Heaters.

With reference to By/RD.6/B.12.1.39. we agree that the heater should not be connected in the ignition circuit, as in this position, a fault in the unit is likely to stop the engine.

As it is considered undesireable to add to the existing number of fuses, the position for this unit seems to be in the accessories circuit.

However, using this circuit, with the existing warning light scheme, no warning would be given to the customer, should he on leaving the car, leave the heater running.

This may easily happen if the master switch is left 'on', as the unit is fairly silent in operation.

By removing the warning lamp cable from terminal No.11 on the switchbox and connecting it to terminal No.6. the heater as well as the other accessories, will be subject to the red lamp which would now become a 'master switch' warning lamp instead of an 'ignition warning lamp'. The advantage of this scheme is that besides doing all that the existing scheme will do, the customer will be warned on leaving the car that the master switch is in the 'on' position, and therefore will run less risk of leaving accessories running.
