MADISON 2366 u s a ILLSLEY COMPANY PRECISION AUTOMOTIVE EQUIPMENT COOLANT CONTROL VALVES 38 PIQUETTE AVENUE DETROIT, MICHIGAN April 22nd 1934, Mr. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Rolls Royce Ltd, Derby, England Dear Mr. Robotham;- You may be interested to know that since last writing you, General Motors have formally adopted our Closed Radiation units for their new series rear-engine buses, and sent us a quantity order at once for immediate use. Likewise (and confidentially) the Pierce Arrow engineering department advised us last week that they have decided to adopt it. Also, we have just had word from Mr. S. C. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Davis of the London office of AUTOCAR, reporting his entire satisfaction with a sample we sent him a year ago and which he has had in use ever since. We have this week been asked to submit at once, to one of the "big three" car manufacturers, a layout and recommendations, and are privately told that cooling troubles on their new cars this year may compel adding on this equipment at once. This is partly because of streamlining encroachments on radiator space, and partly because stepped-up speeds have added to residual-heat water losses whenever the engine is stopped after a fast run, and partly because insufficient exit has been provided in the engine compartment for air drawn in through the radiator. These troubles are mentioned in the thought that you may have one or more of similar nature. We are putting through a small lot of samples in a heavy-duty size, adapted for use on a 1/2" O.D. overflow. As these are being made in the toolroom by hand, the cost is rather high, but we intend to price them at $4.00 and shall be glad to reserve one for you in event you should so desire. You might sometime suggest to the firm that you mentioned to me when here, that they communicate with us concerning obtaining a manufacturing and selling license for Great Britain. As explained to you, the subject has been under discussion elsewhere, but may become open shortly. Expressing again our appreciation of your interest, and trusting that a letter from you is already enroute advising what test results you have had thus far, we are, Very truly yours, ILLSLEY COMPANY Frank S.
