| To RG. {Mr Rowledge} from E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BJ. BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X4003 E1/M8.3.27. RR. F.10. VALVE GEAR ROCKERS WITHOUT ROLLERS. X.4003 X.3822 We send herewith a blueprint of Lec.2390 shewing the treatment for strengthening the rear ends of the rocker bars. Sch.1. we think more generally follows R's proposals. Sch.2 is an alternative shewing a means of avoiding the inclined drilling for the oilways. Personally I prefer Sch.1. Cap nuts are used on the ends of the rocker bars to close yp the oil passage-way through the bars, the front ends of these passageways being plugged by countersunk screws locked by driving a small piece of metal into the screw driver slot. We have made these oil-ways so that they can be easily cleaned out, in accordance with R's usual practice. We think if we submitted the present scheme of soldered plugs it would raise this question. We should be glad to have your comments on this matter. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
