R.{Sir Henry Royce} from DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} X5830 C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} LHS.{Lord Herbert Scott} C. to H8. CX.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} C. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/M7.3.29. RE. COACHWORK - WIDTH OF FRONT SEATS. X.5830 X.7830 X.393 I have taken the opportunity when in London to investigate the question of body widths and door thicknesses. 20 HP. 12-G4 - BARKERLITE CLOSE COUPLED COUPE. A.{Mr Adams} Width between rails........... 46.500 B. & C. Thickness of finishers....... .375 Actual width at elbow line.... 45.750 D# Thickness of door without finishers.................. 3.000 SEE ORIGINAL FOR SKETCH. 14-G4 - HOOPER SEDANCA. A.{Mr Adams} Width between rails........... 44.5 B. Thickness of finishers O.S.... 1.500 C. " " " N.S.... .625 about. Actual width at elbow line.... 42.500 Thickness of door less finishers.................. 3.625 It will be seen that due to the thick finishers, as a result of the Hooper signalling window, the driver feels as though he is in a seat of 41.5 at elbow line, as all the extra door thickness is taken off the dimension E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} which is the elbow room. STANDARD BARKER 20 HP. BODIES. Same as 12-G4 and the same elbow width as 12-G4 = 45.75. 16-G4 - BARKER CLOSED COUPLED ALL-WEATHER. We are making this to give 45.75 at elbow line. B. & C. Width of doors 3.125. 18-EX BARKER SPORTS SALOON. A.{Mr Adams} Width between rails........... 46.750 B. & C. Thickness of finishers....... .500 Actual width at elbow line between finishers........... 45.750 Thickness of doors (without finishers)................ 3.125 This would appear to be an absolute minimum. contd :- | ||
