To B.J. From R copy to C.J. c. to E.H. c. to E.Y. ORIGINAL RE MR. CLAREMONT'S CARS. With reference to the light four-seater car No.405/25, does the broken frame suggest that it ought to have been trussed, or does the car suffer from harsh action of the clutch or brakes ? Would it be advisable when getting new frames pressed for this car, to get a pair for the light four-cylinder which you have at the Works, and perhaps another pair for spares ? The cost of the frames would be very little after the discs were set up. With regard to car No.1665, which would be one of the early 40/50 H.P., I suggest that in addition to the primer, a cock be fitted over the air valve. I have always liked this arrangement for starting the engine as it continues running on the low speed jet only and gives ample petrol at a moderate speed. With reference to fitting a starter to this car, it is evident that we shall have to prepare a design for fitting starters to cars, which have central brakes and three speed box. It is just possible, if the matter is very difficult, that transferring the central foot brake to the rear wheel may have the double advantage of making a better car, as well as permitting the standard self starter to be fitted. Will Mr. Bailey look into this. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
