X.3426 RE MODIFICATION TO JAW CLUTCH.

Confirming my conversation with you yesterday and with reference to Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Stt3/EF31.1.20, the only point I am anxious about in the design of the face of this bush is that the surface should be sufficiently broken up. I do not think radial gashes unless very fine, is good enough, nor do I think the turning down of the face into a narrow annular surface is right. If the ring is made narrow enough to avoid this sticking then I am afraid we shall not have enough suface to avoid bruising. We do not mind very much how the breaking up of the surface is effected providing firstly that sufficient total surface is retained and secondly that the breaking up is sufficiently small.
