Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} for Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} ORIGINAL X8305 Telegram received from R. {Sir Henry Royce} at Le Lavandou. 6.4.25. ************************************** XP805 (crossed out) X8430 As received:- "CONSULAT COUPLING MAKERS FOULING SUFFICIENT DIAMETER FIT BLOCKTYPE UNTIF STARTER TRANSFERRED TO ENGINE AND GEARBOX SUPPORT CLEAR STOP UNDERSTAND WITH BLOCK TYPE EQUAL PRESENT CHASSIS THEREFORE SITUATION NOT SERIOUS BUT JUST MAKING VEE SERIES SHORTER STOP PROBABLY RUBBER BLOCKS MOST HOPEFUL DAMPER STOP HARDY SHOULD STAY AT DERBY TILL STEERING BOX INEFFICIENCY FOUND CERTAINLY MAKE GOSHAWK TYPE NUT UN BRONZE REPEAT TEST OF EFFICIENCY ON CHASSIS MAKE ALL PARTS VERY SLACK CANNOT BELIEVE IN NUT DISTORTION BUT MORE LIKELY TWIST." We consider this should read:- "Consult Coupling Makers. Failing sufficient diameter fit block type until starter transferred to engine and gearbox support clear. Stop. Understand with block type equal present chassis, therefore situation not serious, but just making "V" Series shorter. Stop. Probably rubber blocks most hopeful damper. Stop. Hardy should stay at Derby till steering box efficiency found. Certainly make Goshawk type nut in bronze. Repeat test of efficiency on chassis. Make all parts very slack. Cannot believe in nut distortion, but more likely twist." BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
